Two couple of weeks ago, we presented the new website of our project OLIGOlife. You can visit it here.

Most of the available data about past biodiversity during the 'Tertiary' of Europe are based on the Palaeocene, Eocene, and, specially, Miocene sites. On the contrary, late Oligocene accumulations are very uncommon, specially in the Iberian Peninsula; and our knowledge about the biota of this period is scarce. Fortunately, in Galicia (NW Iberian Penisula) there are around 20 sedimentary basins, with diverse plant and vertebrate remains dated back to the late Oligocene-Miocene. OLIGOlife project steams to study these fossil localities and the vertebrate, invertebrate and flora remains to shed light on the taxa and biodiversity that inhabited the Iberian Peninsula during this period.

OLIGOlife team consists of experienced researchers with a passion for paleontology and evolutionary biology. We are dedicated to advancing our understanding of the Oligocene period in the NW of Iberian Peninsula, and its significance in the history of life on Earth. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and equipment, allowing us to conduct cutting-edge research in the field.

The project OLIGOlife, that I am co-leading, is funded by Xunta de Galicia (ED431F 2023/36, Call “Consolidación e estructuración de unidades de investigación”. 01/01/2023-31/12/2027, and ED481D-2021/026, Call "Programa posdoutoral Xunta de Galicia - Modalidade B". 31/03/2021-31/12/2022) and Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación and NextGeneration EU (RYC2021-034269-I, Call “Ramón y Cajal 2021”. 01/01/2023-31/12/2027).

Check the website, and if you are interested in our project or have questions about it, please do not hesitate to contact us. The OLIGOlife team will be delighted to answer your question and help to you. In addition, we are open to collaboration with other institutions and researchers all over the worldwide. You comments and suggestions are welcomed.
